All Pixel 2 Models Codenamed Walleye, Muskie, and Taimen to Feature Snapdragon 835

The new Pixel series which are currently known to us as Pixel 2. Pixel 2 have been rumored to be released in a total of three models. Details are quite scarce to be honest, except for the fact that these devices have been codenamed Walleye, Muskie, and Taimen. While their internals would definitely spark a debate, particularly which one of them would be sporting a Snapdragon 835. A Google AOSP code reveals some extremely interesting revelations about the three devices.

 

AOSP Code Reveals That All Pixel 2 Codename Models Could Be Running a Snapdragon 835

Paying attention to the AOSP code, we see that codenames Walleye, Muskie, and Taimen are present there. Initially, it was believed that Walleye, and Muskie would be a part of the Pixel 2 lineup. That was exclusively going to be delivered by Google in collaboration with HTC. Later on, a phone featuring the codename Taimen was also revealed, along with rumors. Disseminating in several directions that both Google and HTC will be working on a cost-effective Pixel variant.

Things might not be looking too optimistic for future consumers. As it looks like all three versions will be running a Snapdragon 835 (via WinFuture). However, after looking at the internals Xiaomi’s Mi6 features. It is more than possible for smartphone manufacturers to provide affordable Snapdragon 835-powered devices. At lowered prices but that will result in extremely thin margins for these companies.

After looking at the Pixel and Pixel XL, we do not believe that HTC or Google are ready to embrace the low cost/more sales volumes/lower margins business model. Which is why we are under the impression ? That future devices will also carry a premium, but steeper price tag.

However, this time we could be seeing support for wireless charging, hardware stabilization for cameras and a much better design as opposed to its predecessor.
